Why am I not listed in the referral list?

A listing in the mediator referral list is only available to current members of ACR who have met the criteria for Advanced Practitioner status within ACR's Family or Workplace Sections.

Who is eligible?

Family Mediators who meet the following criteria may be eligible for Advanced Practitioner status:

  • A minimum of two years of family mediation experience, including 250 hours of face-to-face family mediation with clients and a minimum of 25 cases.

  • A minimum of 60 hours of training in family mediation.

  • A minimum of four hours of case consultation with an Advanced Practitioner member of ACR.

Workplace Mediators who meet the following criteria maybe eligible for Advanced Practitioner Status:

  • A minimum of 40 hours of conflict resolution training, in addition to three years (or 200 hours) of experience in the field of dispute resolution and collaborative decision-making.

  • An additional 24 hours of relevant education and training in mediating workplace disputes beyond the basic mediation skills training received four years prior to approval.

  • Status as a Practitioner member of ACR.

  • A minimum of 15 hours of volunteer service to the field, including three hours providing guidance, mentoring, or supervision services to other mediators.

Why is the list limited to family and workplace mediators?

Each professional interest Section within ACR develops its own standards for the Advanced Practitioner membership designation. If you would like to work on establishing standards in your area of specialization, please contact your Section chair(s).
