ACR
is pleased to announce the Seventh Annual Conference keynote address
by "The Art of No: How to Say No and Still Get to Yes" Perhaps the key skill needed in today’s world, argues the co-author of Getting to Yes, is the ability to say No. How can people set limits and stand up for what is important without damaging valuable relationships? How can the search for justice be combined with the search for peace? How can the process of saying No be combined with the process of getting to Yes?Brief Biography William
Ury directs the Global Negotiation Project at Harvard
University. He is co-author of Getting to Yes and author
of Getting Past No, Getting Disputes Resolved,
The Third Side, and most recently, The Power of a
Positive No. Over the past three decades, Dr. Ury has
mediated in conflicts from coalmine strikes to boardroom battles
to civil wars. Currently, he leads the Abraham Path Initiative,
which seeks to create a permanent path of tourism and pilgrimage
in the Middle East. ***Other Conference Highlights***

| [2] Conflict Resolution Day 2007 | |
|
¶¶¶SAVE
THE DATE¶¶¶
Conflict
Resolution Day is a grassroots celebration dedicated to
increasing public awareness of conflict resolution. In 2005 and
2006, ACR members and other conflict resolution practitioners
across the globe held a wide variety of events to mark the
occasion. Need some ideas on how you or your organization can participate this year? Read below to see how Maryland's Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) creatively celebrated Conflict Resolution Day the last two years. Maryland's Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) Since the inception of Conflict Resolution Day in 2005, MACRO has embraced the opportunity to celebrate conflict resolution and educate Maryland's citizens about its many benefits. In 2005, MACRO sponsored a youth art contest open to all Maryland public school students. All of the entries were hung in the Maryland Court of Appeals building in Annapolis. MACRO also used Conflict Resolution Day 2005 to officially unveil their poster series, "Mediation: It's Your Solution." 2006 brought a reprisal of MACRO's art contest, with over 300 entrants from across the state. Winning students and their families were invited to an opening ceremony and reception at the Annapolis courthouse. In addition, MACRO co-sponsored an event with the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, titled, "A Jew, a Muslim and a Christian walk into an art museum together...No joke." Want some more ideas? The grassroots nature of Conflict Resolution Day encourages participants to be innovative, try new ideas and build upon past successes. To help you get started, visit www.ACRnet.org/crday to see a full listing of Conflict Resolution Day events in 2005 and 2006. And, don't forget to let ACR know about your plans for Conflict Resolution Day 2007 by e-mailing acr@ACRnet.org. Questions? Contact acr@ACRnet.org or Sharon Press at presss@flcourts.org. Want to order a Conflict Resolution Day poster? Each 12 x 18 reproduction of the Conflict Resolution Day image costs $5.00 (shipping included).
