SIGHTSEEING AND ACTIVITIES AROUND PHOENIX
In addition to the 7th Annual Conference--RETHINKING
THE TABLE: People, Places, & Practices--activities abound
in Phoenix and around the state. Over the next several months, we
hope to give you a variety of ideas of how to spend your free time
in Phoenix including scenic ventures, overnight trips, world class
cuisine, sports activities and cultural events.
The greater Phoenix metropolitan area is commonly referred to as The Valley of the Sun. Approximately 90 miles south is Tucson and 225 miles north is the breathtaking Grand Canyon. In between, we have golf courses, museums, concert halls, hiking trails, red rocks and so much more.

| [2] Conflict Resolution Day 2007 | ||
|
¶¶¶SAVE THE DATE¶¶¶ CONFLICT RESOLUTION DAY 2007 is October 18 Conflict Resolution Day 2007 – State, County and City Proclamations Since 2005, over 35 states, counties and cities have issued official proclamations recognizing Conflict Resolution Day (the third Thursday of October). Proclamations are an easy and effective way to take part in Conflict Resolution Day activities. Want to have a proclamation passed in your locale? Here’s how to do it: 1) Write a letter to your local representative. If you’re looking for a statewide proclamation, write to the Governor’s office. For a county proclamation, write to the Board of County Commissioners. And, for a city proclamation, write to your Mayor. Explain what Conflict Resolution Day is, how it has grown in the past years, and how other states/cities/counties have officially recognized Conflict Resolution Day. Download and print a copy of a past proclamation from www.ACRnet.org/crday and include it in your letter so that it is easy for them to edit and adopt. Make sure to let them know the importance of issuing the proclamation as early as possible so that people can plan events. Check out this letter that led to a State proclamation in Pennsylvania in 2006. 2) Follow up. Regardless of which elected official you write, he or she inevitably receives a lot of mail. Follow up with a phone call to his or her office to make sure that someone received the letter or to arrange a meeting to discuss the matter further. 3) Meet with your representative (or his or her staff). If your letter didn’t convince them to issue a proclamation, meet with your representative and his or her staff personally. Educate them about conflict resolution, let them know the important services that conflict resolution professionals provide and further explain the purpose of Conflict Resolution Day. 4) Tell the world about the proclamation! After the proclamation is issued, tell everyone yo u know. Inform your friends, family and co-workers. Call your local newspapers. And, most importantly let ACR know about your success! We’ll list it on our website and post a link to the PDF of the actual proclamation for the world to see. Want to see more sample proclamations? Visit www.ACRnet.org/crday to view a list of past proclamations and other Conflict Resolution Day events. Questions? Contact Andy Levin at alevin@ACRnet.org or (202) 464-9700 x211 or Sharon Press at presss@flcourts.org. Want to order a Conflict Resolution Day poster? Each 12 x 18 reproduction of the Conflict Resolution Day image costs $5.00 (shipping included). To order, download a product order form and fax or mail with payment to ACR.
