Frances Moore Lappé to Deliver Keynote at ACR’s 2005 Annual
Conference
|
ACR
is pleased to announce that author and activist
Frances Moore Lappé will deliver the keynote
address at ACR’s Fifth Annual Conference this fall in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. A thinker who became an activist through her study of global
hunger, Lappé first came to public attention with her 1971 book
Diet for a Small Planet.
In recent years Moore Lappé has involved herself in a broad-ranging
study of original and creative approaches developed by people around
the world to resolve the pressing problems of hunger, isolation and
environmental devastation. Of these, the systematic and peaceful resolution
of disputes is a major growth area, and it is for this reason that ACR
has invited Frances Moore Lappé to share her thoughts with us
on taking power, dealing with conflict and strengthening democracy.
Lappé’s most recent books are “Hope’s Edge:
The Next Diet for a Small Planet” and “You Have
the Power: Choosing Courage in a Culture of Fear.”
Mark your calendar for September 28 – October 1
and experience this and many other exciting events at ACR’s Annual
Conference … see you in Minneapolis.

National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign: April 4-8, 2005
|
April 4-8, 2005 is National
Youth Violence Prevention Week! This nationwide, web-based initiative
educates students, teachers, school administrators, counselors, school
resource officers, school staff, parents and the public on ways to reduce
and prevent youth violence. Each day of the campaign focuses on a specific
prevention strategy and includes information and activities to address
youth violence and unite communities. ACR has been involved with the campaign
for several years and is proud to be a Strategy Sponsor. The National
Youth Violence Prevention Campaign was founded by the National Association
of Students Against Violence Everywhere (S.A.V.E.) and GuidanceChannel.com,
a brand of Sunburst Visual Media. To learn more about the campaign, become
involved, or inform ACR about your National Youth Violence Prevention
Week activities, please contact Jennifer Druliner at jdruliner@ACRnet.org
