ACR POLICY STATEMENT ON WAR AND WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION (WMD)

The ACR Board of Directors has issued a Policy Statement in an effort to promote informed citizen dialogue about the potential threat of the development and deployment of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq, the United States, and elsewhere. The statement has been posted on ACR's Web site, http://www.acresolution.org, with a link to a discussion forum at the end of the statement. We encourage readers to post their responses.

ACR MEMBER DIRECTORY INFORMATION REQUEST

Is your membership information up to date? ACR is preparing to compile the 2003 membership directory and needs your help. Please visit the ACR Member Center (go to the ACR Web site, http://www.acresolution.org and click on "Member Center Login"), enter your login name and password, and check the data in your record. ACR will use that information in the upcoming directory. ACR expects to ship the directory by late February 2003.

[3] ACR Annual Fund Appeal
================================================

JOIN THE ACR ANNUAL FUND AND HELP SUPPORT ACR

The Association for Conflict Resolution Annual Fund is a voluntary giving
program established by the Board of Directors. Tax-deductible donations are
used to enhance ACR's programs and services and help keep dues low. The
Annual Fund not only strengthens the operating capacity of the
organization, but also allows ACR to move forward with new initiatives to
enhance the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution.

The Fund offers four levels of giving:
Founders' Circle $1000 -$10,000+
Sustaining Member $500+
Supporting Member $250+
Contributing Member $100+

ACR gratefully acknowledges contributions at any level of giving. All
contributors will be featured in ACResolution for one year (4 issues)
following the date of contribution. Most importantly, contributors will
know that they are making a real difference in the strength and
effectiveness of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

For more information on how you can help secure ACR's future, please
contact ACR COO Sangita Sigdyal at 202-667-9700.

[4] ACResolution Magazine Call for Submissions
================================================

LAST CHANCE FOR MEMBERS IN THE NEWS SUBMISSIONS!

ACResolution magazine is requesting submissions for the Members in the News section of ACResolution. Members in the News, a subsection of the magazine's In Brief section, is the place for you to update your fellow ACR members on recent developments in your life and professional career. Getting married? Found a new job in the field? Moved to another city? Received an award? Write and tell us about it! Submissions should be no longer than 50 - 100 words, should be accompanied by a photo scanned at 300 dpi (you may send a photo hard copy if an electronic version is not available), and should note your ACR membership status and history. Please send all submissions to ACResolution's Managing Editor, Mark Sawchuk, at msawchuk@acresolution.org, accompanied by your complete name, contact information and primary professional title. Submissions must be received by December 10 for inclusion in the Winter 2003 issue, which will mail in early February.

REQUEST FOR SUBMISSIONS TO SPRING ISSUE OF ACRESOLUTION!

The Spring issue of ACResolution will explore the connections between alternative dispute resolution and health. ACR members Jeanne Clement, Robert Robson, Joan Roover and Leonard Marcus will serve as editorial advisors. The editors are currently in the process of outlining the contents for this issue and invite your ideas. Is there a topic that you would like to see covered? Do you have experience in some aspect of ADR and health that you would like to write up and share with other ACR members? If so, please write up a short description of your proposed topic and send it the ACResolution Managing Editor, Mark Sawchuk, at msawchuk@acresolution.org. The editors will review proposed topics and articles in December and begin soliciting authors in January.

NEW CONFLICT RESOLUTION EDUCATION RESOURCE

Whether you are a teacher, school administrator, conflict resolution education practitioner or parent, you'll want to check out the new publication Kids Working It Out! Co-edited by Tricia S. Jones, Editor-in-Chief of Conflict Resolution Quarterly, and published in affiliation with ACR, Kids Working It Out tells the stories of how students -- and the teachers who have worked with them -- have learned to deal with conflict and create safe and caring learning environments. Every school shooting or other violent event is another reminder that our kids need help like never before. Children need to build strong relationships and strong communities - and they need to learn to deal with conflict constructively. Kids who manage conflict well help make room for learning in a safer, kinder place. In Kids Working It Out, students and teachers talk about what they need and whether conflict resolution programs have met those needs. They tell how these programs were implemented in their school and how others can make them happen in their own schools and communities.

[6] ACR Chapters Update
================================================

ACR is delighted to report that the Chapter network has flourished at an incredible pace since the San Diego conference. In particular, the international division has grown so quickly that an International Chapter Task Force has been created to assist with developing the network. Director of Chapters, Diane Kenty, is creating a system for bringing all of these international Chapters together via e-mail and discussion forums on the ACR Web site.

The enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of the ACR Chapter Leadership is a model for any organization. The strength of this organization lies with the local Chapters. If you are not a member of an ACR Chapter we encourage you to join us. Collaborate with other professionals in the field, developing outreach projects, conferences and seminars to educate, stimulate and train in various practice areas and skill levels. Make a commitment to join soon!

For more information contact Danette Ross, ACR Membership Development Associate for Chapters, by e-mail at dross@acresolution or go to the ACR Web site, http://www.acresolution.org, and click on "Chapters" to locate an ACR Chapter near you.

ACR FAMILY SECTION

The ACR Family Section invites you to the 2003 ACR Family Section Conference, "A Family Affair: Making Room at the Table," to be held July 10-13, 2003 at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Denver, Colorado. Old friends, new ideas, and beautiful places are at the heart of the 2003 Family Section Conference. The conference will offer opportunities for mediators of all persuasions -- different styles, philosophies, and levels of experience -- to explore controversial topics and learn from each other.

For more information or to submit a proposal, please go to http://www.acresolution.org/research.nsf/key/fam03-rfp or contact Erin Weiss, ACR Conference Manager, by e-mail at eweiss@acresolution.org. If you would like to volunteer to help at the ACR Family Section conference, please contact Jerry Bagnell by e-mail at jerry_bagnell@yahoo.com.

The Family Section is also implementing a Friends Program, pairing a new Section member with a current Section member for orientation, mentoring, advice and other activities. ACR Family Section members should look for a survey in the mail, asking if you would be a Friend, or would like a Friend in the Family Section. Interested Section members, please contact Zena Zumeta, Chair, Family Section Membership Committee at mtci@igc.org.
