Guidelines for candidates
and for those campaigning on behalf of candidates:
(a) Sections, Chapters and ACR Entities.
“Get out the vote” communications to members
from Sections or Chapters, or other entities within ACR
are acceptable if they mention candidate name(s), but not
if they explicitly advocate voting for those candidates
or include reasons to vote for those candidates.
Acceptable: “This is a message from the
X Section to remind you to cast your vote in the upcoming
Board of Directors election, and to let you know that
our member, Jane Doe, is one of the candidates. To learn
more about all the candidates, and to cast your vote,
go to www.castyourvote.org.”
Unacceptable: “Please vote for Jane Doe
in the upcoming Board of Directors election. Jane has
been a leader in X Section and has an outstanding biography.”
(b) Individual Members.
While Sections, Chapters or other entities may not endorse
a particular candidate, individual members may. Candidates,
or those campaigning for candidates, may use personal mail
or e-mail lists, but not ACR membership lists, either in
support of individuals or to encourage participation in
the election. Section and Chapter leaders and leaders of
other ACR entities may not write to ACR members on their
personal mailing lists as representative of or on behalf
of an ACR entity. Thus, when sending out an endorsement
or letter of support for a candidate for the ACR Board of
Directors to a personal mailing list, the ACR leader may
not sign it, “Jane Doe, Chairperson of X Section.”
