Community Mediation Centers across Maryland to
Hold Celebrations
All 18 of Maryland’s community mediation centers
are holding celebrations and education
activities for Conflict Resolution Day. These
include open houses; decorating grocery bags
with conflict resolution themes and bagging
groceries while talking about community
mediation; tabling in public places; and the
grand opening of a new center. In many counties
in Maryland, public officials have signed
proclamations declaring Oct. 19 Conflict
Resolution Day in that area and highlighting the
work of the community mediation centers. For

October 19, 2006: “Mediators Achieving Peace”
Peer Mediation Training
“Mediators Achieving Peace” is a peer mediation
training program developed by the State Bar of
Texas for 7th and 8th grade students. There
will be 100 students from five Waco ISD middle
schools who will be attending the peer mediation
training program on Conflict Resolution Day
2006. Volunteer attorneys from the
Waco-McLennan County Bar Association will be the
instructors and mentors for the students. There
will be a Swearing-In ceremony at the end of the
training. The Honorable Vicki Menard, Judge of
the 414th Judicial District Court of McLennan
County, Texas, will administer the Peer
Mediator’s Oath to the students.
