Conference Overview

You might want to arrive a day early and participate in one of the pre-conference skill-building institutes. These half-day or full-day institutes offer the opportunity to delve deeper into issues and hone your skills with some of the field's top experts. The institutes take place on Wednesday, October 15 and Thursday morning, October 16. Half day institutes are $50 and the full day fee is $100. Please see the Conference Schedule for more information on these institutes.

This year we are also offering an Arbitration Training Session prior to the conference. The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), and the National Academy of Arbitrators (NAA) are collaborating to offer this special training opportunity designed especially for labor arbitrators.

The conference begins on Thursday afternoon, October 16th with opening remarks by ACR President Nancy E. Peace, CEO David A. Hart, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Florida Harry Lee Anstead. Throughout the conference, there will be mini-plenary events, Section meetings, and more than 100 workshops, offering a wide range of topics to satisfy the learning needs of both novice and seasoned practitioners.

ACR is pleased to announce that this year's keynote address will be delivered by former Senator George Mitchell. Mitchell's early experience as a lawyer and judge, followed by his long and successful career in national and international diplomacy, make him a particularly appropriate speaker for an audience of conflict resolvers. His speech "Can Conflict Resolution Make a Difference? Reflections of a Career Peacemaker" will take place on Saturday at the Keynote Luncheon.

In addition to a full schedule of formal presentations, the exhibit hall offers participants an informal place to meet with representatives from organizations and educational institutions, learn about the latest products, and find out about other opportunities and services. Stop by the ACR Resource Center to meet the ACR staff and learn more about ACR.

There is also ample time in the schedule for seeing old friends and exploring the many attractions in the Orlando area. Meet with colleagues at receptions on Thursday and Friday night, or rendezvous with friends in a private courtyard or at a poolside café. Located on a 15-acre lake, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort boasts no fewer than five swimming pools and five golf courses, as well as a full fitness center, spa, tennis, volleyball and more. You can kick back and relax at the hotel, or take off for an afternoon at one of the Disney theme parks or other nearby attractions. Bring the whole family!
