Process for Creating a New Chapter

The first step in forming a new Chapter is to form a Chapter Organizing Committee.  This committee must be made up of at least three current members of ACR in good standing.  If you would like, ACR can provide a list of ACR members in your area to assist you in this process.

The next step is to submit the "Request to Organize a Chapter" form to ACR.  This form allows you to describe the proposed structure of the Chapter and briefly outline your plans and purposes for the Chapter.  It can be downloaded here.

If the "Request to Organize a Chapter" form is approved by ACR, your group is authorized to become a new Chapter-in-Formation and must appoint a Chair for the Organizing Committee.

The next step will be for the Chapter-in-Formation to enroll a minimum of 20 current members of ACR in the Chapter-in-Formation, then petition ACR for a Chapter Charter by submitting proposed Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, based on ACR's Model Chapter Articles of Incorporation and Model Chapter BylawsThe Model Chapter Articles of Incorporation and Model Chapter Bylaws can be downloaded here:

Please note that the specific requirements for incorporation vary from state to state. Be sure to obtain information about the applicable requirements in the state in which your group plans to incorporate.

ACR has a Chapter Advisory Council, which is appointed by the ACR Board of Directors and which assists in new Chapter formation.  Once you are ready to move ahead with your plans for Chapter formation, please contact the ACR Chapter Liaison, at Chapters@ACRnet.org.  The Chapter Liaison will be able to put you in contact with the members of the Chapter Advisory Council.
