Chapter Benefits, Responsibilities, and Expectations

 

ACR Chapter Benefits:

 

  • Affiliation with and use of the name of a respected national organization with over 6,000 members.
  • Dedicated staff support from ACR that includes publicity for Chapter events (press releases and outreach to media in your area,) tools for membership recruitment and retention, guidance in starting and maintaining an ACR Chapter and assistance with programs ideas and development
  • Updated Chapter Handbook
  • Dynamic Chapter Web Site
  • Help and guidance with major public policy initiatives (UPL, UMA, etc.).
  • Participation in ACR's National Chapter Network that allows for information and idea sharing.
  • Free publicity for all Chapter events on ACR's Web site, ACR Update (a monthly electronic newsletter sent out to all ACR members) and ACResolution Quarterly Magazine.
  • Promotion of Chapter membership in ACR's membership application, prospective member packet and new member packet.
  • Annual Conference Chapter Scholarship that pays for half of one Chapter member's attendance.
  • Model Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation.
  • Opportunity to take advantage of ACR's group tax exemption.
  • Updated list of ACR members in Chapter's area.
  • ACR Speaker's Bureau — professionals from a variety of different fields who are available to speak at Chapter meetings and other events.
  • Paid attendance to National Leadership Council Meetings for Chapter President or President-Elect.
  • Attendance by ACR Staff (when available) at Chapter's Annual Conference or Annual Meeting.
  • Networking Event for Chapters and prospective Chapter members at ACR's Annual Conference.


Expectation of ACR's Chapters:

 

  • To incorporate as a nonprofit organization using ACR's Model Articles of Incorporation and Model Chapter Bylaws (after those documents are approved by the ACR Board of Directors);
  • To obtain tax-exempt status either by participating in ACR's group tax exemption or by applying independently to the IRS for tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; and
  • To purchase Directors and Officers' Liability Insurance for the Chapter's Board of Directors. (There may be some financial assistance to Chapters for insurance.)

 

Ongoing Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide an annual report to ACR of Chapter activities, finances, and plans for the next year.
  • Appoint a Diversity and Equity Point person and submit a Diversity and Equity Report on the Chapter's activities and membership. (Generally submitted with Annual Report.)
  • Hold three meetings a year, in addition to any meeting held at the ACR Annual Conference.
  • Maintain an average membership of at least 20 ACR members.
  • Maintain an active Board of Directors with elected officers who are members of ACR.
  • Share Chapter membership list with ACR.
  • Provide ACR with events and meeting notices on a regular basis.
  • Promote membership to ACR by providing membership applications at Chapter events.
