Austin, TX – Rachel
Barbour has been awarded the Association for
Conflict Resolution President’s Award by 2007-2008
President Marilyn McKnight at ACR’s 8th
Annual Conference. In presenting the award, McKnight
commented on Barbour’s many contributions as a
tri-chair of the conference planning committee,
including her role in arranging for conference
keynote speaker Lee Hamilton. McKnight also noted
Barbour’s efforts to “push the envelope” for the New
ACR and the field of Conflict Resolution generally.
Barbour is a Dispute
Resolution Program Specialist in the Office of
Dispute Resolution Services at the National
Mediation Board (NMB). Her responsibilities include
managing a variety of dispute resolution projects,
developing internal training programs and mediating
workplace disputes. She is also extensively involved
in developing and implementing the NMB's online
dispute resolution program. She represents the NMB
on the Interagency Dispute Resolution Working Group
Steering Committee and is involved in the Workplace
Disputes Section.
Her varied background
includes experience working on diversity related
conflict resolution efforts domestically and
internationally. She spent several years focused on
conflict resolution efforts in the Horn of Africa
and has traveled extensively through the region.
Barbour has been a member
of ACR since 2001 and was a tri-chair for the 2008
Annual Conference. In September, she became a member
of the 2008-2009 ACR Board of Directors.
She holds a MS from the
Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at
George Mason University.
