Mediator Elected President of the Association
for Conflict Resolution
Washington, D.C. –The Association
for Conflict Resolution (ACR) announced today
that Nancy E. Peace, a Boston-based labor mediator
and arbitrator became its new president on August
24 during the association's annual conference
in San Diego. Ms. Peace succeeds Arnold Shienvold,
a psychologist and family mediator from Harrisburg,
Pa.
ACR is a professional organization of mediators,
arbitrators, educators, lawyers, human resource
managers and other practitioners of alternative
dispute resolution. With more than 6000 members
across the U.S. and around the world, ACR is a
leading voice in the growing field of conflict
resolution.
"The field of conflict resolution is evolving
rapidly and confronting tough new issues,"
said Ms. Peace. "We are working hard to improve
the quality of practice, ensure greater diversity
in the field, and expand the creative and effective
use of conflict resolution in homes, schools,
communities and nations. I am excited by ACR's
potential to help create meaningful changes in
the world and honored to lead the organization
during these challenging times."
Nancy E. Peace is an experienced mediator, labor
arbitrator and trainer. She teaches in the Program
on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and is a
member of the National Academy of Arbitrators,
the American Arbitration Association, the Industrial
Relations Research Association and is an associate
member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts
Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association.
She has published articles on grievance mediation,
interest-based collective bargaining, and dispute
resolution in condominium communities. She holds
a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University, an MA from
the University of Michigan and a DLS from Columbia
University. She lives in Newburyport, Mass.
