MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING AS APPLIED IN THE WORKPLACE
Motivational Interviewing is a unique counseling approach created in the late 70’s by two psychologists Miller and Rollnick. It is client-centered approach that focuses on empowerment and promoting self-efficacy. This semi-directive style works to elicit behavioral change by helping clients to explore their ambivalence and resolve it. Like many other person centered counseling modalities it is non-judgmental, and non-confrontational. This style has been found to be particularly useful for helping people change destructive or unproductive behavior, even with clients who have been mandated to participate.
